Brecon creatives are opening their doors to the public in the first Brecon Town Open Studios trail on Friday June 24 and Saturday June 25. The idea came from sculptor weaver Sue Hiley Harris who thought it would be a great opportunity to show members of the public how and where artists work in Brecon.
There are nine studios involved this year and all are within walking distance of each other, which is a criteria for becoming involved. It's hoped that the trail will expand in future years to include other artists who work in Brecon Town. The walking trail connecting the studios includes some of Brecon’s elegant Georgian streets as well as lesser-known byways and offers fabulous views of Brecon Cathedral, the rivers Usk and Honddu as well as the Brecon Beacons.
The artists involved include painters, a glassmaker, book upcyclers, a photographer, a glassmaker and a film maker - NIgel Evans, better known as a musician and an Fyi:Brecon editor is revealing clips of his new film, based on Greed the Rock Opera.
Entry to the studios is free. A map and information can be picked up at any of the studios and at many venues in Brecon and can be downloaded here. Tea, coffee and cakes or biscuits are available at the majority of the studios for a charity donation.
The studios are working studios, many in the artists’ homes. Please telephone to check accessibility if you are concerned about access.
