Brecon Beacons Tourism member Theatr Brycheiniog will host a bold new production of the award-winning musical RENT this October in Brecon, the cultural heart of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
Set in New York City’s East Village during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis, RENT is a gritty yet uplifting story of love, loss, friendship, and the fight to live fully — no matter the odds. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Bohème, Jonathan Larson’s iconic rock musical follows a group of struggling artists and outcasts facing the realities of poverty, addiction and illness, while still reaching for connection, creativity and hope.
With unforgettable songs including Seasons of Love, La Vie Bohème and Take Me or Leave Me, RENT bursts with raw passion and emotion. Its message of resilience and the power of chosen family has touched audiences worldwide for almost three decades and continues to speak powerfully to new generations.
Brecon Little Theatre’s new production promises to honour the original while showcasing outstanding local talent and heart. Performed at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon’s flagship arts venue, this is a chance to experience a global classic right here in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).
Special Note – Open Dress Rehearsal
The performance on Thursday 9 October will be staged as an Open Dress Rehearsal. This is a full preview of the show that allows the cast and crew to fine-tune before opening night. Audiences should expect occasional pauses, technical adjustments or last-minute changes, adding to the unique experience.
Content Guidance
RENT contains mature themes including drug use, sexuality, strong language and references to HIV/AIDS. While its message is heartfelt and uplifting, it may not be suitable for young children. The production is recommended for ages 14+, with parental discretion advised for younger teens.
