Voted the 37th greatest British film of all time by Total Film we all remember Zulu as a timeless cinematic masterpiece.

But did you know Zulu was based on the story at Rorke's Drift of the 24th Regiment originally based in Brecon ?

After its premiere on the 22nd January 1964 this month sees the 50th anniversary of the award-winning film which remains timeless.

The Regimental War Museum in Brecon has one of the finest collections of military artefacts with its fascinating Zulu War Room which tells the compelling story that inspired the iconic

. With the original flag from the battle itself and pieces of unique memorabilia Brecon is at the heart of the story as the town where it all began for the soldiers on their journey.

For this reason the town is paying tribute to the film in various ways throughout the month of January to celebrate the anniversary, so if you're a fan why not join in?

Saturday 18th January

A fabulous concert will be played in Brecon Cathedral on to bring together the Band of the Prince of Wales’ Division, the Talgarth Male Voice Choir and the Brecon and District Make Choir. Tickets £15 (to include refreshments).

Sunday 19th January

Seeking to encourage everyone to take up this opportunity, Brigadier Napier will also highlight the Rorkes Drift Service of Commemoration in Brecon Cathedral . ‘This unique event to Brecon will be supported by the massed Fanfare Trumpeters and band of the 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh. There are literally thousands of veterans in Powys and many who support the Armed Forces in so many ways who I would encourage to come along’.

Monday 20th January

To round off these spectacular events there will be a special screening of the iconic film ‘ZULU’ in the Coliseum Cinema at 7.30pm. This will mark the 50th Anniversary of the films release.
