For Freedom and Empire Exhibition until 24 June 2018

When the news broke on 4 August 1914 that Britain had joined the war against Germany and Austria-Hungary, many thought it would all be over by Christmas. No-one could have imagined how long the war would last, and how far-reaching its influence would be. The war had an immediate impact on the slate industry.

This exhibition explores the responses within the slate quarrying communities to the First World War recruitment campaign preceding conscription. Free and suitable for all More information

A celebration of Wales's oral traditions, held across several Cadw sites. Come and discover more as part of Summer of Stories at Blaenavon Ironworks on 1 June– 11am – 4pm.  Free Entry.

Listen to stories based on historical characters, legends and myths from across Wales. Drop in to listen to a story based on Welsh culture and heritage.

French students visit Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall 

In March a party of French students from College Jules Ferry in Cambrai visited the area. They spent an afternoon at Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall with members of Dawnswyr Blaenafon who were wearing traditional Welsh costume.
