Blaenavon World Heritage Site hosts a range of exciting events throughout the year-and this September is no exception. There's an exhibition throughout September at Big Pit tracing the history of mining, Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway will be hosting their steam gala and there's free admission to Blaenavon Ironworks on the 29th & 30th of September. Big Pit National Coal Museum From Mine to Museum

As Big Pit celebrates its 35th Anniversary, this exhibition traces the history of Big Pit as it transformed from a working coal mine into one of UK’s leading museums and tourist attractions. Further details.

Wales Valleys Walking Festival

The industrial heritage and Flora of “The British” – Friday 7th September 10am. A 4 km walk around the northern section of “The British” Talywain, taking in some the industrial history and the story and uses of a variety of plants that thrive in the area. Free, booking essential, further details.

Blaenavon World Heritage Environmental Group

"A Walk in the Woods" guided walk. Saturday 22nd September. Meet at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre 10:00am. A short walk of about 6.5 km (4½ miles), suitable for families. We'll walk up to the Blaenafon Community Woodlands to look for signs of autumn, including mushrooms, toadstools and other fungi. Open Doors at Blaenavon Ironworks

Dawnswyr Blaenafon Visit to the National Eisteddfod 2018

Blaenavon’s own Welsh dance group, Dawnswyr Blaenafon, performed at the National Eisteddfod in Cardiff on Friday 10 August. This is the first time that Dawnswyr Blaenafon had been invited to dance at this exciting event. The group had a wonderful day and the dancing was huge success. The team is now looking forward to going to Conway in 2019.

Controversial World Heritage Conference at Tower of London

World Heritage UK is pleased to announce that registration is now open for its 4th Annual Conference, ‘Setting the Scene for World Heritage’, taking place at the Tower of London UNESCO World Heritage Site on the 15th and 16th October 2018.  Further details.

Rebecca Hartley nominated as Vice Chair of World Heritage UK

In June this year Rebecca Hartley, Team leader Economy, Renewal & Culture at Torfaen Council was appointed as Vice Chair of World Heritage UK in recognition of her work to promote and develop the Blaenavon World Heritage Site.
