Behind Every Callout: Support Brecon Mountain Rescue

Sixteen callouts in just two weeks.

That’s the reality facing the volunteers of Brecon Mountain Rescue Team, who have spent one of their busiest periods of the year responding to incidents across Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park and the surrounding area.

While many of us have been enjoying long summer days exploring the mountains, the team has been quietly answering emergency calls at all hours, helping injured walkers, assisting neighbouring rescue teams and working alongside emergency service partners during several complex incidents.

Now, they’re asking for your support.

Always ready when the call comes

Mountain Rescue volunteers never know when their next callout will happen.

Over the past fortnight alone, Brecon Mountain Rescue Team has attended 16 incidents, demonstrating the dedication, professionalism and expertise that has made the team an essential part of keeping people safe in our mountains.

Every rescue relies on highly trained volunteers giving up their own time, often leaving work, family occasions or the middle of the night to help complete strangers.

It’s remarkable work that most of us hope we’ll never need.

Yet for those who do, it can make all the difference.

More than a rescue team

Behind every callout is a charity.

Unlike many emergency services, Mountain Rescue teams depend heavily on fundraising and donations to provide specialist vehicles, medical equipment, communications systems, rescue kit and ongoing training.

Every pound raised helps ensure volunteers can continue responding whenever and wherever they’re needed.

The recent run of callouts is a timely reminder that while accidents in the hills are relatively uncommon, they can happen to anyone, regardless of experience.

Knowing that Brecon Mountain Rescue Team is there when things go wrong gives reassurance to everyone who enjoys spending time outdoors.

Beat the Beacons — Saturday 3 October 2026

If you’ve ever wanted to support the team, Beat the Beacons is one of the best ways to do it.

Taking place on Saturday 3 October 2026, the event is Brecon Mountain Rescue Team’s biggest fundraiser of the year, bringing together walkers, runners and outdoor enthusiasts to raise the funds that keep the team operational throughout the year.

Whether you’re taking on the challenge yourself or cheering others on, every entry helps ensure the volunteers have the equipment, training and resources they need for the next callout.

A way to say thank you

Most of us hope we’ll never need Mountain Rescue.

But knowing they’re there brings peace of mind to everyone who explores the spectacular landscapes of Bannau Brycheiniog.

After an exceptionally busy few weeks, Beat the Beacons offers an opportunity to give something back to the volunteers who give so much of themselves.
