An Arts Tour of The Border Country – 6th –28th May 2017

By j.bell on 04/05/2017

For the month of May, the Andrew Lamont Gallery at Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon is hosting an eclectic exhibition work celebrating the landscapes and animals of The Brecon Beacons and borders of Mid Wales.

Clarissa Price is a Welsh artist living in Hay on Wye who works mainly with pen and ink drawings of countryside animals. She also works in watercolours painting Welsh towns, castles and still life.

Sue Williams works with acrylics painting local scenes of The Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and The Golden Valley, Mike Shiels lives near Llandrindod Wells and specialises in oil and acrylic landscapes. The stunning local scenery was his main reason for moving back to Mid Wales, 15 years ago. Mike enjoys sketching outdoors, observing nature and creating a record of his experiences and painting “en plein air”. These sketches either end up as finished pieces, or act as the basis for new studio pieces.

The centre pieces of the exhibition are the works of Mark Zytynski - a photographer with a passion for trees and woodlands. Mark works from high resolution digital photography which he produces as limited edition mixed media artworks and fine art ‘painterly’ prints using highly textured watercolour papers. The prints and artworks are displayed without glass in contemporary ‘float frames’ or using Mark’s own ‘tiling’ technique to create larger works mounted on canvas spreads.

The Andrew Lamont Gallery is open seven days a week, 10am – 6pm unless there is a function on. This can be checked by calling the box office 01874 611622 Andrew Lamont Gallery, Theatr Brycheiniog, LD3 7EW. There is a car park at the theatre where fee paying applys.
