The weekend of 27-28 June will see the Muster at Tretower Court and Castle, and promises to be a spectacular event.
This is supposedly the location where the Welsh contingent of King Henry V’s army gathered before departing for France 600 years ago – almost to the day! Come to see what life would have been like on campaign, as companies of archers pitch their tents and polish both their weaponry and their skills in readiness for the coming war.
Watch them as they work and train, and why not “have-a-go” yourself; there’s the chance to try your hand at archery – and maybe win a prize – before the companies decide amongst themselves as to who is the Champion Archer. So come and cheer for your favourite, and see who will claim the King’s Arrow.
There will be food and ale with which to regale yourselves; and for those of a gentler disposition there will be the opportunity to discuss the coming campaign with the women of the camp, and maybe to partake in gentler games such as “horseshoes”, “apple-bobbing” and “jeu de mail”.
Do be careful, however – miscreants and ne’er-do-wells run the risk of being soused as the “Villain in the Stocks”!!!
The event runs from 10:00 till 17:00 each day, and normal Cadw entry charges apply.
Timetable for each day – Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th June 2015
